Avery Family Reunion

It’s almost that time, Charleston! Make plans now for the 2024 Avery Family Reunion, taking place on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2PM-6PM at Burke High School!

This year’s Reunion theme celebrates Gullah Geechee culture—it’s hosted by the Avery Research Center for African American Heritage and Culture at College of Charleston, in partnership with the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor NHA.

Since 2021, the Avery Family Reunion has grown into a beloved affair that brings together CofC students, faculty and staff, and the broader Tri-county community. Held each August at Burke, this event offers community resources, local small business vendors, live music performances, games and entertainment, food, and more.

Mark your calendars and come through to enjoy:

  • A LIVE music performance from Grammy-nominated R&B/soul trio The TON3S (aka The Hamiltones)
  • Chef BJ Dennis’ Gullah Market, showcasing Gullah Geechee vendors in arts, crafts, food, and more (it’s his first one ever in Charleston!)
  • Community resource vendors from across Charleston and the Tri-county area
  • Live music performances, traditional storytelling, and dancing
  • Delicious cuisine from local Black-owned food trucks
  • Giveaways, games, and other entertainment for the entire family

Admission is free, and by registering, you’ll be entered to win can’t-miss prizes from our treasured community partners. Please bring cash or card to support the Gullah Market, other local small business vendors, and food trucks.

We can’t wait to see you there!
