» New Lowcountry Digital History Initiative (LDHI) Exhibit on the Morris Street Business District

Explore Charleston history through the lens of the Morris Street Business District. Established just before the Civil War, the neighborhoods around the Morris Street Business District were home to free and enslaved Black people as well as multiple waves of immigrants from Europe and Asia. From 1850 to the present, this exhibit illuminates the complex history of this often-overlooked yet essential part of the city, as it maps over one hundred years of the district’s history, building by building, for your exploration.  The exhibit was published in April 2021.
