Staff News, News & Notes

Beginning in March 2021, Ms. Georgette Mayo, Avery Research Center’s Processing Archivist, will join a cohort of librarians and conservators in training on South Carolina emergency preparedness. These workshops are through the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC). Mayo is one of the individuals that will be representing the Lowcountry and Pee Dee South Carolina region.

The workshops will be both theoretical and hands-on.  Topics that will be covered are how to create a disaster plan, emergency preparedness and response, how to salvage collections after an emergency, and what are the agents of deterioration.

Mayo’s participation in these workshops is a continuation of her work with the Alliance for Response facilitated by the American Institute for Conservation (AIC).

The Train-the-Trainer workshops are sponsored by the South Carolina State Library and funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
