Project Director
Job Purpose
The Avery and Liberatory Literacies Project Director supervises the work of all grant consultants and staff, collaborates with other College of Charleston Libraries staff, and works under the general supervision of the grant’s Co-Principal Investigators.
Minimum Requirements
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science and minimum of three successful years and increasingly responsible experience in archives is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
o Academic training and experience in history (particularly a working knowledge of African American history and culture), education, arts management, historic preservation and planning, library/archival administration, political science, anthropology, sociology, communications, or other related fields.
o Experience with managing grants.
o Understanding and experience with current archival records management technology and tools, preferably ArchivesSpace.
o Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, workflows, and best practices in archive, digitization, and museum management.
o Knowledge of archival principals and standards, including DACS and EAD, and the implementation of metadata schema.
o Evidence of effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred:
o Flexibility in adapting to changing departmental and organizational priorities and to ever-changing technological environments.
o Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and collaborate with staff at all levels
o Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills.
o Ability to multi-task and work with diverse populations such as students, scholars, genealogists, the public, etc.
Project Archivist
Job Purpose
Project Archivist for the “Avery and Liberatory Literacies” grant will supervise the work of an archival fellow(s), collaborate with other College of Charleston Libraries staff towards the mission of the grant, and work under the general supervision of the grant Project Director and Co-Principal Investigators.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school or another relevant degree with certification in Special Collections/Archives, or a related field with equivalent experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
· Academic training and experience in history (particularly a working knowledge of African American history and culture), education, arts management, historic preservation and planning, library/archival administration, political science, anthropology, sociology, communications, or other related fields.
· Two to five years of related archival, library, and museum experience.
· Demonstrated experience processing large and complex archival or manuscript collections, especially of personal papers.
· Understanding and experience with current archival records management technology and tools, preferably ArchivesSpace.
· Familiarity with descriptive and metadata standards for archival description, including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), and Dublin Core.
Preferred:
· Excellent oral and written communications skills, subject research skills, and interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Ability to take initiative and work independently.
· Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
